Website Promotion possibly the most important thing you can do for any online business. If its not in the top 5 things to do then you need to assign a higher priority to this important task.
Adding your website url to a directory or search engine allows internet users to find your site and creates a link back to your web pages from a quality source. A greater number of url submissions will result in increased traffic. That translates to increased affiliate sales for you. It is how the internet works! Create a site, add affiliate links, promote continuously, generate clicks from visitors who click-thru to your affiliate sponsor, and at that point the sponsor website takes over and converts the visitor to a sale. There is a direct correlation between visitor traffic, click-thru rate, and sales volume.
That being said, you will now understand that affiliate marketing is simply a numbers game. And to that end you'll need to submit your url to search engines again and again. Never cease in your search for quality search engines and directories. Each time you find a new one, don't hesitate or save it with good intention to add your url later. Do it right away! A few minutes per day, or even per week is all it takes to build a sizable traffic flow.
